It looks like I may be purchasing a house with a perfect building for a shop, so down the road I can pursue my dream of building instruments. With my current space and budget, however, I think learning inlay might be the way to go. I've seen several books and/or videos detailing inlay techniques. Any recommendations? I'm not totally opposed to the "learn as I go" approach, but it helps to have a basic approach in mind in order to buy materials and tools as well as prepare a work space. Thanks, Andy Wright Managua, Nicaragua As soon as my spruce order from acousticwoods.ca arrives I'm going to build my first acoustic with the help of a luthier down here, so that will occupy me one day a week...but it's 2 hours each way to go to his shop from my house, so it's unlikely I'll be able to work on it more than one or two days a week. Could be a looooooooooong process! |

Jim Patterson's book is a very good place to start, also Larry robinsons videos are good. I only have the intermediate one and if I could accomplish that it would be amazing. I belive Craig Lavine has some information at the top of this site under "inlay class" Good luck. |

There's an older tape by Don Macrostie at Stew-Mac that covers the basics. It's perty good for 39.00 bucs I think.It's called Inlay Techniques. |
